The northwest area of Sardinia is famous for its beaches with azure waters and white sand. For those who frequent the area, like me, for family reasons, the beaches are best avoided, at least in summer. However, the landscapes can offer incredible views.

The area is called Nurra and is characterized by rolling green plains reminiscent of parts of Ireland, and stunning coastlines often dotted with back-dune ponds teeming with wildlife that chooses to nest here during migration. Some of these ponds have also been used by humans, such as the one pictured in the photo, known as “Saline” because sea salt was extracted there.

During these Christmas holidays, I’m staying with my partner’s parents. I’m taking the opportunity to wander around early in the morning and take photos of this little-known yet incredibly charming piece of the world. I came because the weather forecast promised a beautiful red sky, but it was raining. Yet, as often happens, the rain gave way to the sun, and I took advantage of it for this shot.
