Last winter, during one of our family hikes, we discovered a stunning, untouched area of forest with two lakes not far from our hometown. As we pushed through the bushes toward the water’s edge, I told my wife that this place would be perfect for capturing the sunrise in spring, and I knew I had to come back.

We found small animal-made paths along the lakeshore that offered beautiful views of a bay filled with old tree stumps standing in the water. The entire area is a protected habitat, not easily accessible and marked with various animal tracks.

When spring arrived, it brought some ground frost and the chance of fog under a cloudless sky—ideal conditions for a landscape photographer. However, to reach the location, I had to walk a couple of kilometres through the dark, wooded forest. The journey was challenging and cold, but the inspiring and beautiful morning made it all worthwhile, and I wanted to share it with you.
