Growing up in Oregon in the Pacific Northwest of the USA has given me a love for the mountains. But I’ve lived at sea level in Southwest Florida for the last 39 years. So, a week in the incredible Canadian Rockies is always a welcome opportunity to recharge my mountain-starved soul.

This visit was in mid-spring, when the snow was melting and the alpine lakes were thawing. A day trip from Banff National Park found us at Natural Bridge in Yoho National Park on the British Columbia side of the Alberta/British Columbia border.

After shooting the various angles of the impressive rock formations of the Natural Bridge, I was walking back to my vehicle when my eyes were drawn to the color and the intensity of the rushing water through the granite crevices above the narrow opening of the popular rock bridge.

With my tripod as low as possible, I used a long exposure to capture the rush of the snow-fed Kicking Horse River as it forced its way through the rock formations. Every time I see this image, I am recharged to the core of my being as I experience the sounds and beauty of the spring rush of the Kicking Horse River.
