It was a beautiful fall day in October in the Adirondacks. I was out for a hike with my dog, Diesel, while we visited the area for the first time. As we hiked around Heart Lake, we came upon a stunning reflection across the water. I love how the pristine fall mountains are mirrored in the lake, creating a beautiful autumn masterpiece.
Heart Lake is located near Lake Placid, NY, and there is a legend associated with it that tells the romance of Henry Van Hoevenberg and Josephine Schofield. From the summit of Mount Jo, the lake appears almost like a heart.
Originally called Clear Pond, the lake was renamed Heart Lake after Henry and Josephine purchased the land because of its heart-like shape when viewed from above, marking the place where their love story began.
