I was out to capture the Southern Utah desert sunset one early spring evening in late March. Unaware that there would be a full moon rising due east of me.
The sunset that night was mediocre at best, so I headed back to my vehicle from the hiking trail, a bit depressed about not capturing a decent sunset shot.
As I crested over the shallow hills of the path I was walking, I was suddenly greeted by a giant full moon looming on the horizon. No time for a tripod, I stopped dead in my tracks, freehand held the 300mm lens, adjusted my settings and snapped the shot.
Sometimes it’s not what you plan for, but what you get in the end that counts. At minimum, I was able to drive home with something on my memory card.
