This is a place I often go. The ground at my feet moves. It moves me. It moves like the wind if the wind drew itself on the sky. It moves like a wild modern dance. I had been to this spot several times in the past, saw the potential, but passed on by as the sky was void of interest. On this day, though, that came after four previous days of storm, I was rewarded. The clouds seemed to mimic the twists in the land, and the time of day bent some light into the shadowed area where I was crouched with my tripod. I stacked two exposures, each focused at a different distance. The image was then worked in Lightroom and Photoshop. I am pleased with the results.

There is no specific name for this. I don’t photograph stories, though there is a story of its making. I photograph “visual sensations,” juxtapositions, relationships, beautifully lit settings, or natural forms that call to me. I was drawn by the “active geometry” of the layers on the foreground shade. The way they twist, rise, and extend to the distant butte is enthralling. The incoming clouds provided an excellent cap to the visual choreography.
