Chapman’s Pool was a lucky discovery. We were in our second week in Dorset and had changed houses to Worth Matravers, which gave us a wet and cold welcome. Lots of rain and a chilly breeze from the sea left us starting the log burner in the house in mid-July. Late afternoon, the weather improved, and I set out for a walk to Chapman’s Pool, which was about 20 minutes away.
Starting in the fog, I reached the descending path down into the bay, where the sight finally got clear. At the base of the path, there were some fishing huts and this old anchor—a great foreground for a view across the bay. The black-and-white transformation is my favourite choice. This is the 10th anniversary of this picture, and it’s still one of the keepers—definitely representing my vision of that bay.
