Cinque Terre gets very busy, even in the off-season. This image was shot in late April. The pre-sunrise blue hour comes very early, when most of the tourists and residents are still sleeping. The dark blue contrasts against the ancient buildings, and everything reflects into the inlet below.
The outcroppings of rocks along the shore are also very striking and add yet another layer of contrast. It is a feast for the eyes and senses and is constantly changing. This magical moment doesn't last very long, and then that glorious dark blue is gone.
