Goal or process oriented photography

What motivates you as a photographer? Is it personal expression or commercial gain? Rafael Rojas explores two very different approaches

Every now and then I am confronted by people asking me whether I could photograph their wedding or perhaps people are surprised because I do not know when my new body of photographic work will be finished. Every time this happens, I am reminded how, even for us photographers, photography is still a very indistinct word where all kinds of intentions, goals, motivations and uses are mixed together in the same bag.

Anybody would make the distinction between painting walls at construction sites, painting portraits by the beach, or painting abstract compositions out of the sheer need to express oneself. In writing, nobody would group together authors…
