I have written about Whitby’s 199 steps before and it is probably fair to say that I am a bit obsessed with this view! I still cannot put my finger on why, maybe it is partly down to childhood memories but I am certainly not alone. Everybody I have taken there has fallen in love with it. One of my fondest memories was when a guy, who had travelled all the way from Australia, came on a two-day workshop. I took him to the steps for dawn on the second day and he was so blown away that he contacted his family via FaceTime to share the experience with them. There we were stood in the twilight, before dawn, talking to his wife and two young daughters who had just got in from school. It was a special morning for everybody.
I didn’t really need another view of the steps but this year I noticed the bank on the side of the steps was covered in large clumps of pink and white valerian. I’m not sure …
