Talking about Photographs in Terms of Art, Vision and Style

What do you talk about while in the company of other photographers? Do you talk about your gear? About technicalities perhaps? Alain Briot shares some advice on subjects to talk about that will potentially help you improve your vision for landscape photography

In my previous essay we saw why it is important to go beyond gear, technique and location when we talk about our work. However, one thing we did not cover is what do you talk about if you cannot talk about these aspects? Doing so is the focus of this essay.

Gear, technique and location are supports and reinforcements for our work. While they are important, they are not enough to create meaning. In order to create something that is artistically meaningful you have to put your heart and soul in your work, otherwise you are not creating anything personal. This is similar to writing.
