Photographing magical and unpredictable conditions creates everlasting memories. Trevor Anderson experienced one such moment witnessing the stunning light displays caused by thunderstorms near Mount Rainier
I am standing on top of the ledge looking out at the clouds coalescing into many different shapes. The sky cracks, following periodic lightning strikes near a ridge adjacent to Mt. Rainier. The rock outcrop that I am photographing on is colored in hues of red and magenta, as the lingering fragments of alpenglow color the hillsides and are reflected in a small lake in the middle of the evergreen trees. I am at a remarkable vista witnessing one of the most stunning displays of light I have seen. It is in these wild and breathtaking moments that every difficult effort taken to get to a photogenic spot becomes a non-factor. The unpredictability of mountain thunderstorms create a sense of excitement and awe.
