Photographing The Bolivian Altiplano

A photographic trip to the Bolivian Altiplano is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any travelling landscape photographer. In this article, Mike Bell shares his pictures and his experiences and explains how he got there and why.

Like many of the world’s best locations, it is not easy to reach and quite inhospitable once you are there, but the rewards are enormous. Its unique combination of geology and climate produces scenes that seem to be from another world. I will never forget watching the dawn unfold over the seemingly endless white salt with a deep blue sky above.
