Addressing the artistic aspects of your work means learning to talk about your photographs without referring to gear, techniques or locations. Doing so means talking about your personal motivation for creating your images, for using a specific style and for expressing your vision.
Kit has traditionally been a passion for photographers. This is understandable since cameras and other gear are technical in nature and because constant changes and improvements mean that new gear is always in the news. Gear manufacturers play an important role in photography and in many ways shape the development of the medium. However, gear is just that, gear. Cameras do not take photographs any more than pots prepare meals. Only the artist and the cook can do that. Nothing wrong in having good gear mind you. We certainly need those tools to take photographs and as the saying goes …
