Photographing Hawaii

In this last part of the series, Boris Mar is taking us on a trip through the Hawaiian Islands. He is sharing with us not only his superb images, but also some good stories and anecdotes. Hopefully, he will be back to share more of his adventures.

I have had Hawaii high on my photography wish list for many years. I remember seeing many images of Hawaii as a child; later in life, when photography became my passion, I could not help pondering the many unique photographic opportunities that this place would offer. Hawaii is a natural paradise, far away in the central Pacific Ocean. Few places on Earth can rival Hawaii’s amazing diversity of life. On just eight main islands, with a combined land area of only 2,600 square kilometres (6,500 square miles), are all of the world’s major ecological zones and more unique animal species than in any place of similar size on Earth.
