Capture, Print And Mat Sizes

There is some confusion about the relationship between image capture size, print size and mat size. In this article, Alain Briot is sharing with us his views and knowledge on the subject

Some photographers believe that their prints should be sized to a ratio of 3:2, giving them an image size of 12” x 18”, 16” x 24”, and so on, because this is the image size captured by most 35mm cameras. Others believe that their prints should be resized to a 4x5 ratio, giving them an image size of 11” x 14”, 16” x 20”, and so on, because these are the sizes in which printing paper comes.
