In Conversation… Christopher Maun

LPM: Most photographers have a moment where everything becomes clear and that moment could change the way we see photography. Have you had such a moment and how did it affect your style?

CM: Absolutely, and I can recall it as if were yesterday. I was sitting at my desk at work and I came across an article about a photographer and his wife from the San Francisco Bay Area who had tragically passed away in a plane crash. I didn't know who he was at the time, but the article was about Galen Rowell and his wife Barbara. That night, out of curiosity I searched for his work on the web and came across his Mountain Light Gallery. I spent the better part of that night viewing his images and I was just overwhelmed by the way they affected me. I regret the circumstances of how I came across his work, but it completely changed my view of what a photograph could be, both from an aesthetic and an emotional point of view.
