Horsetail Falls On El Capitan

This phenomena was made famous by Galen Rowell in 1973 when he was the first to photograph it in color at sunset.

Horsetail Fall does not flow all of the time and the window of opportunity for capturing the "glowing" water is only a couple of weeks in February.

Even during that period, there must have been enough snowfall earlier in the winter, the temperature during the day must get warm enough to melt the snow and ice, and finally, the sun must be able shine through a cloud-free sky right at sunset.
