On a summer evening, I scouted out this rock island that I've been looking for for some time. When I found it, I stopped here in the morning to get an idea of how I had never found it before. Once I saw it, I was blown away by its size. Lake Superior sure has a way of keeping hidden beauties like this tucked away.
I had left and came back later that evening, and I was even more in awe of the lighting. It set the tone of this scenery, and the rock island stood out even more. The lake was quite calm at the time, and I had this shoreline to myself to play around with different compositions. I was just more in awe of the calm summer day here, and no mosquitoes in sight was a good change for me.
I repositioned myself for a front view and noticed the reflection of this island. I couldn't believe it, so I stepped away from my camera to take it in. I literally had to rub my eyes to what I was seeing because it just felt unreal. I stayed here for about an hour or two, just fully appreciating the gift that I was given based on taking a second trip to the Rock Island.
After I had taken my images of this rock island, I sat at a nearby bench and enjoyed the solitude of the scenery. It's such an amazing feeling when you have a place like this all to yourself and can take it in fully. I cherish places like this the most because they're tucked away from many faces, and that, in my opinion, prevents people from just coming here and trashing the place.
Now that I've been here many times after this image was taken, I cherish it even more. In ways, it's kinda a ritual for every time that I drive up Highway 61 to Minnesota's North Shore to stop here and enjoy the beauty of it. Unfortunately, winter is coming to an end, and I missed a chance to capture this during the winter, so I plan to get up here again for the next winter season.
