In the Northern Norway you could see the midnight sun from Bodoe in Nordland and further north. I was standing on Storveltlia near the lake of Unkervatn in Hattfjelldal commune in Helgeland, a region laying in the south of Nordland in Norway. You don't have the midnight sun here, but the sun are already rising at 03.00 in the early morning. From my spot on the hillside of Storveltlia I got a marvelous view against the big forest near Unkervatn and the gentle mountains on the border of Sweden in the east.
The river of Unkra streams beneath me in the deep valley, invincible by the fog. From my spot I could see the sun rise in the north and became to fade away the massive layers of fog. Gradually the fog disappeared and revealed a stunning scenery of a large forest with hills and ridges and distance mountains on the swedish border. I took many pictures with different exposures just to make sure that I catched the essence of the magical moment.
Storveltlia is not a big area, but it is protected as a Natural Preserve. Here you find a spruce forest on limestone ground which is very rare in Norway. Very rare plants like several orchids trives in the rich soil. You don't have to travel far from the center of Hattfjelldal to reach Storveltlia. The place lays in a steep hillside there the road cross the area above. From the top of the hill you got a amazing view over the landscape. You could drive further and watch the lake of Unkervatn. From there you drive to our neighbors in Sweden.
As always I prefer to use a tripod while I take my landscape images. Its important for me to make sure that my photographs are sharp and have the highest resolution. The weather this early morning was just great, more than i could expect. The weather so far north in Norway are rather challenging and varying a lot. During the summer it rains very much which is a treat for the people who lives in this.
