I spent several days in early July when Provence lavender is annually in full bloom. I was not disappointed, and spent each morning and evening photographing the fields around Valensole Plateau in addition to the charming villages of Venasque, Gordes and Roussillon. At sunrise there are very few tourists, mostly just a handful of serious photographers as Valensole Plateau is world-renowned. I returned to Provence again (it’s an hour from my house) in the fall to photograph the vineyards. Highly recommended as well with even fewer tourists and vibrant grapes juxtaposed against villages and the Massif des Dentelles de Montmirail.
