The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award is currently in its final days of accepting submissions for its second season “Beauty of Light”. Submissions are accepted through the award’s website until midnight of the 31st of December, UAE standard time. The award, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, is set to boast the largest grand prize award in the world of photography.
Competitors will be given the chance to submit a maximum of four submissions into this year’s award, one for each category available. The grand prize category is “Beauty of Light” and is set to have a cash prize valued at US $120,000, the largest of its kind in the world. Competitors will also be given the chance to enter the Emirates, Black and White and General categories. The award will also have two special awards, the Photography Appreciation Award and the Photographic Research/Report Award which will be awarded to members of the photographic community that have positively contributed to the field. The total prize pool for all categories is set to total US $389,000.
Sahar Al Zarei, the assistant secretary general of HIPA commented that “HIPA’s marketing campaign for this season is set to present the award with a new level of international participation. We really wanted to build on the success of the first season which attracted competitors from over 99 countries and we believe that we will do so through the events and festivals we have taken part in this year. We are excited by the many great submissions we have already received and hope to have many more in the remaining days of competition”.
